With 10 new case studies added during March, there are now almost 30 e-learning stories from around south west Scotland to inspire you and is aimed at showing and sharing innovative practice around the region. You can access the case studies page here.
On our site you’ll also find a web page for each of our supported institutions where we can shine a spotlight on local case studies, videos, podcasts and any other resources that reflect our work to support institutions exploit new technologies for learning & teaching. Our initiative will culminate in a “Best of the West” event on 3rd June 2010 at Glasgow Caledonian University.

Managing Data in Difficult Times: policies, strategies, technologies and infrastructure to manage research and teaching data in a fast changing technological and economic environment
Following the success of previous conferences held in venues such as York and Belfast, JISC and the Coalition for Networked Information (CNI) are proud to announce the 8th International Meeting that will be held at the Barcelo Carlton Hotel, Edinburgh on 1-2 July 2010.
The meeting will bring together experts from the US, Europe and the UK. Parallel sessions will explore and contrast major developments on both sides of the Atlantic. It should be of interest to all senior management in information systems in the education community and those responsible for delivering digital services and resources for learning, teaching and research.
The main conference will open at 09.30hrs on Thursday 1 July and will close at 15.00hrs on Friday 2 July. Conference keynote speakers include:
- Dan Atkins, Professor and Associate Vice President, University of Michigan and former Director, Office of Cyberinfrastructure, US National Science Foundation
- Sayeed Choudhury, Associate Director for Library Digital Programs, John Hopkins University

Formerly Chief Research Officer for CANARIE Inc.2, Canada’s Advanced Internet Development Organisation, he’s a keynote speaker for JISC’s 2010 Annual Conference which takes place on the 12th and 13th April in London.

The 8th annual JISC conference is now less than a month away. The conference (which is free, though places are going fast!) will be held from the 12-13th of April in the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in London. Conference theme is “Technology at the Heart of Education and Research” an expression of the JISC’s strongly-held view that universities and colleges must integrate technology into all aspects of their strategic planning to ensure their survival in the coming years. The 8th JISC Annual Conference which will take place in London on the 12th and 13th of April this year is now open for registration.
Technology at the Heart of Education and Research is the theme of this year’s conference which will see experts from across education and research answer questions, solve delegates’ problems and showcase the latest examples of how using a simple solution can save time, money and resources as well as in many cases, create inter-department working.

All done with smoke and mirrors?
Repositories and the Cloud is a free
event, organised jointly by Eduserv and JISC, bringing together software developers, repository managers, service providers, funding and advisory bodies to discuss the potential policy and technical issues associated with cloud computing and the delivery of repository services in the UK. The event will be held in London on 23 February 2010, in the interesting and unusual surroundings of the Magic Circle Headquarters .

Registration is now open for the JISC online e-learning conference on 24th – 27th November 2009.
The whole conference programme takes place online and will allow delegates to interact in real-time sessions, watch presenters on video, meet other delegates in the virtual coffee shop, and comment on the conference using Twitter.
The conference is suitable for researchers, practioners, and managers interested in technology enhanced learning. Keynote speakers will include Helen Beetham, Dr Rhona Sharpe, and Peter Bradwell. Conference fee: £50.

Scotland’s first annual e-Assessment conference has been scheduled for the 25th of September at Dundee’s Hilton hotel. Bringing together speakers from schools, further and higher education, the event will showcase Scottish innovation and best practice in the field.
It’s free to attend the one-day event, which will also play host to the Scottish e-Assessment Awards, which recognises achievements in the categories of:
- Formative e-Assessment
- Summative e-Assessment
- e-Portfolio/PDP
- Mobile e-Assessment
- e-Assessment Administration
- Innovation
The conference is being organised by the University of Dundee, e-Assessment Association, Scottish Regional Support Centres, SQA and Higher Education Academy.

The Annual Learning & Teaching competition (previously known as the Learning Object Competition) is again to be held in conjunction with the 2009 ALT-C conference in Manchester, 8-10 September . The panel of judges will be looking for exciting, innovative learning and teaching resources that have been created under a Creative Commons Licence to showcase at the conference. Overall winners will be presented with their prizes at the ALT-C 2009 Conference Dinner on Wednesday 9th September.
