So we’re nearly there for another year and what a year it’s been, from duck houses to Denmark, from expenses scandals to the environment. Every step of the way here at NewsFeed, brought to you as ever by the two Scottish JISC Regional Support Centres, we’ve been scanning the radar for shooting stars relating to technology, teaching and learning, burning bright across the firmament.
We know Charles Dickens invented Xmas almost entirely single-handed, we know that a large US soft drinks company created the modern image of Santa, but the magic of the season still refuses to dim. So if you look under the tree in this Xmas edition of NewsFeed (the last of 2009) you’ll find heaps of interesting presents just waiting to be electronically unwrapped.
Undo the bows, tear off the paper and there are boxes of JISC Invitations to Tender for projects in the New Year (could your name be on one of them?) We have scientific timelines from NASA and musical gizmos that are astonishing to look at and listen to. (No sleep for anybody if the wrapping comes off those, but no need for batteries.) In parallel with the Copenhagen summit we have top tips on sustainable IT, a challenge to chop 10% off your footprint and a glimpse of low carbon computing well into the future. We have news of Google Wave and the shiny outline of Google Chrome OS set to be making waves in 2010. We have glittering baubles to trim the tree in the shape of the December snippets and even a Xmas guest.
The house is now quiet and everything is in place but if we’ve left anything off your Xmas list then please use the comment system to let us know. If you’ve been good, then we’ll try to make sure you get your wish in the coming year.
Until that comes, Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year to all our readers from all of us at Scotland’s JISC Regional Support Centres.
